St Kilda Festival - The Latin Quarter

The Latin Quarter Salsa Experience...

St Kilda Festival is one of Australias best known and Melbournes most loved events. An inclusive and free celebration of summer utilising St Kildas stunning foreshore and featuring the cream of Australias musical talents.

Join the increasingly popular Latin Quarter, presented by Melbourne Salsa and now in it's 7th year you'll be blown away by the big Latin sound, sexy dancers and the dynamic Melbourne Salsa dance classes.

Experience the excitement of Latin dancing as we showcase various dance performances from student teams to professional dance shows.

Then get up and take in a Melbourne Salsa dance class ending with dancing to the live Latin big band. If you have never experienced Latin music and dance, this is one afternoon not to be missed!

This year 'Spanish Doughnuts' will hold a WORLD CHURRO EATING competition, with $1000 'Prize Money' to be won you don't want to miss this chance!

8 enthusiastic contestants will be plucked from the crowd to battle it out. The challenge takes place at 3pm on our Latin Quarter stage as part of St Kilda Festival. Only one of our 8 daring challengers will win the title of WORLD CHURRO EATING CHAMPION and take home the cash prize of $1,000.00.

The rules are simple:
Contestants must eat as many original churros rolled in cinnamon sugar as possible in two minutes. All churros must be in the mouth, chewed and swallowed to be counted and in the event of a tie, the two contestants will move on to Sudden Death where an additional five churros must be attempted.

Last years winner Ruari Currin knocked out the competition wolfing down an impressive ten churros in two minutes! Do you think you can beat him?

The 8 lucky finalists will receive free Spanish Doughnuts hats and t-shirts for participating, but only the hungriest challenger will take home the cash prize.

To be in with a chance to win be sure to be at the Melbourne Salsa stage from 2.30pm on Sunday 12 February!
